Trainee Site Manager

Location: Site-based
Reports to: Site Manager 

Job Purpose

The Trainee Site Manager will support the Site Manager in the day-to-day management of construction projects, gaining hands-on experience in site operations, health and safety, quality control, and programme delivery. This role is designed to develop the skills and knowledge required to progress into a full Site Manager position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Site Manager in coordinating and supervising site activities
  • Support the management of subcontractors, trades, and suppliers
  • Help ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, and to the required quality standards
  • Monitor site progress and report issues or delays to senior management
  • Assist with site inductions, toolbox talks, and maintaining health & safety standards
  • Ensure compliance with company procedures, building regulations, and industry standards
  • Support quality inspections and snagging works
  • Help manage site documentation, including daily logs, permits, and records
  • Liaise with the design team, suppliers, and other stakeholders as required
  • Maintain good housekeeping and site organisation

Health & Safety

  • Assist in implementing and maintaining health & safety procedures
  • Report hazards, near misses, and incidents promptly
  • Promote a positive health & safety culture on site

Skills & Experience

Essential:

  • Strong interest in construction and site management
  • Good communication and organisational skills
  • Willingness to learn and take direction
  • Basic IT skills (Microsoft Office)
  • Ability to work well as part of a team
  • CSCS card (or working towards)

Desirable:

  • Construction-related qualification (or working towards, e.g. HNC/HND, NVQ, or degree)
  • Some site-based experience (work placement, apprenticeship, or labouring background)
  • SMSTS or SSSTS (or willingness to work towards)

Training & Development

  • On-the-job training with experienced Site Managers
  • Support to gain relevant qualifications and tickets
  • Clear progression path to Assistant Site Manager / Site Manager
